Developer docs

How to build, submit and get paid for themes and plugins on Wcart.

Getting started

  1. Create your free developer storeSign up on developer sign-up. You get your Wcart login and a free, demo-only store. Activate it from the email (that is where you set your password), then sign in.
  2. Create your organisationIt publishes your listings and is the payee. Choose the currency you price in (INR or USD); you can change it on Organisation until your first sale. Your sign-up store becomes your dev store.
  3. Add payout detailsA bank account or UPI ID on Payout details, so you can be paid.
  4. Create a listingPick theme or plugin and follow its steps on the listing page. Each step shows what is missing. The guides in the other tabs walk through each kind.

Your dev store

Each developer has one dev store: the free store created at sign-up. It is locked to demo mode, so it can never go live or take real orders. Design themes in it and test-install plugins on it. See Dev store.

Review, versions and publishing

                     │
└──changes requested (notes) ──fix──▶ submit again
  • A reviewer checks exactly what you submitted and either asks for changes (notes appear on your listing and by email) or a Wcart super admin approves it.
  • Wcart then publishes it: a theme goes into the theme catalogue under your name; a plugin is added to Wcart’s add-ons.
  • Every change is a new version (1.0.1, 1.1.0 …). One version can be in review at a time and each must be approved before merchants get it. Merchants keep the current version until the new one is published.
  • The listing’s Versions tab shows the live version, the one in review and the reviewer’s notes. You are emailed at each step.

Pricing

  1. Pick your currency onceOn Organisation: INR (₹) or USD ($). Every listing is priced in it and your earnings are booked in it. It locks after your first sale.
  2. Enter one price per listingOn the listing’s Details step. Choose Paid and enter your price (your base price), or choose Free: any store can install a free theme or plugin at no cost, and it does not earn. The form shows what you keep as you type.
  3. Wcart completes the pricingAt approval Wcart sets the price in the other currency, any sale price, the billing (one-time, monthly or yearly) and whether plans include it free. The listing reads Waiting for pricing, then On sale.

Earnings and payouts

Wcart keeps a commission (your rate is on Organisation); you keep the rest. A rate change only applies to new sales.

How a store gets your listingWhat you earnHow often
The store buys itYour share of what the store paidEach purchase and renewal
Wcart includes it in the store’s planYour share of your base priceOnce per store (one-time), or every month / year the store keeps it
Wcart gives it free to the storeYour share of your base priceAs above

For a theme included in a plan, a store counts while it has your theme applied. Trial and inactive stores do not count. Example: a plugin at ₹500 with a 20% commission earns ₹400 per sale; included monthly in a plan for 40 stores it earns 40 × ₹400 = ₹16,000 a month.

  1. On hold for the refund windowEach earning waits 30 days (unless Wcart says otherwise).
  2. AvailableThen it joins your available balance.
  3. Paid monthlyWhen your available balance reaches the minimum payout, Wcart sends it by bank transfer or UPI to your payout details. Smaller balances roll into the next month.
  4. RecordedEach payout appears on Earnings & payouts with its transfer reference. A failed transfer returns to your available balance.

Your account
